The Journal of Intercultural Management invites scholars and practitioners to submit original research papers for a special issue linked to the Knowledge Management Conference, organized under the auspices of the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management and hosted by ISEG, Lisbon, on 24 – 27 June.
Background and Rationale
The Knowledge Management Conference brings together researchers and professionals interested in knowledge creation, sharing, transfer, and application in organizations and societies. In line with the conference’s interdisciplinary and international profile, this special issue aims to deepen the discussion on knowledge management through an intercultural and cross-cultural lens.
As organizations increasingly operate across national, cultural, and institutional boundaries, understanding how knowledge is managed, interpreted, and transferred in intercultural contexts becomes crucial. This special issue seeks to contribute to this debate by combining insights from knowledge management, intercultural management, organizational studies, and related disciplines.
Scope of the Special Issue
We invite submissions for a special issue of JoIM exploring the intersection of intercultural management and knowledge management in the context of emerging technologies. The session seeks contributions that examine how global and multicultural teams create, share, and apply knowledge, and how technology can support these processes across cultural boundaries. We welcome contributions that explore the interplay between knowledge management and intercultural dynamics, including theoretical, empirical, and practice-oriented perspectives.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Knowledge management in intercultural and international organizations
- Cross-cultural knowledge sharing, transfer, and integration
- Knowledge creation and innovation in multicultural teams
- Intercultural leadership and knowledge-based organizations
- Digital transformation, AI, and knowledge management across cultures
- Knowledge management in global value chains and networks
- Organizational learning in intercultural environments
- Knowledge management in higher education and research institutions
- Cultural barriers and enablers of effective knowledge sharing
- Sustainability, ethics, and responsible knowledge management
- Cultural influences on knowledge sharing, creation, and retention in global organizations
- Technology-mediated knowledge management platforms and their adoption in multicultural settings
- Overcoming intercultural barriers in digital knowledge ecosystems
- The role of AI, collaborative tools, and social technologies in supporting intercultural learning and knowledge exchange
